Why Preservé

A gentler way to create room for an implant.

Traditional augmentation creates a pocket for the implant by separating tissue. Preservé uses specialized instruments to gently tunnel and stretch the tissue instead, aiming to leave more of your natural breast structure undisturbed.

  • Designed to preserve your anatomy

    Tissue is elongated around the implant rather than widely separated, with the goal of keeping the breast’s natural support structures intact.

  • A smaller incision

    An insertion sleeve helps place the implant through a smaller incision than many traditional techniques, which may help keep the scar less noticeable.

  • Often without general anesthesia

    In a published early U.S. case series of this tissue-preserving approach, most procedures used local anesthesia with sedation. Your plan depends on your health and surgery.

  • No-touch implant placement

    The sleeve is designed to deliver the implant without direct handling during insertion.

    Motiva® Channel Separator

    Create a narrow tunnel

    Through a small incision beneath the breast, a slim instrument with a blunt tip gently separates a narrow path to the far edge of the planned implant space.

    Motiva® Inflatable Balloon

    Gently make space

    A soft balloon is placed through the tunnel and slowly inflated, stretching the tissue in a controlled way to form a three-dimensional space for the implant.

    Place the implant

    The implant is guided into the space through a funnel-shaped sleeve, which helps it pass through the small incision without being handled directly.

Preservé is breast implant surgery, so the risks of implants and surgery still apply. They include:

  • Pain, bleeding, infection, or healing problems
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation
  • Capsular contracture, when scar tissue tightens around the implant
  • Implant rupture, shifting, or the need for additional surgery
  • BIA-ALCL and other rare cancers in the scar tissue around implants
  • Systemic symptoms some people describe as breast implant illness

Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and the longer you have them, the more likely complications become. Long-term data on this tissue-preserving approach are still being collected. Results and recovery vary, and no outcome is guaranteed.

What is Preservé breast augmentation?

Preservé by Motiva is a minimally invasive breast augmentation technique. It uses a channel separator, an inflatable balloon, and an insertion sleeve to place a Motiva implant while aiming to preserve the natural breast tissue.

How is Preservé different from traditional breast augmentation?

The main difference is how the implant space is created: tissue is gently tunneled and stretched rather than widely separated, and the implant is placed through a smaller incision. It is still implant surgery with the same implant risks.

Are Motiva implants FDA approved?

In September 2024, the FDA approved Motiva SmoothSilk Round and SmoothSilk Ergonomix silicone gel implants for primary and revision breast augmentation in women at least 22 years old. Dr. Keyes can confirm which implant is planned for you and share its labeling.

Will I be awake during the procedure?

Possibly. Breast implant surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Dr. Keyes will recommend the option that fits your health and procedure.

Will I have a scar?

Yes. Any incision leaves a scar. Preservé is designed to use a smaller incision, but how your scar heals and looks varies.

What is recovery like?

Recovery varies. Swelling, discomfort, activity limits, and time away from work depend on your health, your procedure, and how you heal. You will receive individualized aftercare instructions.
